When do you need a Professional Plumber?

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

As a homeowner, you notice when your faucet starts to drip or when something starts to smell. The question becomes, can I do this myself? Is this a DIY project where I can stop by the hardware store and fix it up in a couple hours? Or, is this something that I need a plumber for? There are a lot of common issues that can be done yourself, but when it comes to those tricky things that you’re not sure about, we’re here to help. Here’s a quick list of occasions when you need a professional plumber.

Bad Smells

What’s that smell? That’s a question you never want to hear! If your sink is giving off a strange smell, or your drains are emulating a nasty odor, it’s probably a sign that you need a plumber to come check everything out. Sometimes, waste could be building up inside your pipes or drains, or even mold could be building up from a behind-the-wall faucet leak.

If all of your drains smell, however, this could be a severe issue that would need a plumber’s assistance immediately. It’s possible that a vent or something in the sewage system has been blocked.

Clogged Drain

If your drains are clogged in your kitchen sink or your bathtub, it might be a good idea to get a professional plumber to service your home. We have the proper tools to fully excavate your drainage area and pull out any hair, dirt and debris that has built up over time in your drain. By calling a plumber, you could ensure that your drain will be 100% clear and clean.

Change in Water Pressure

Has your water pressure gone down in your shower or sinks? Is it slower than normal or not producing as much water? This could be an indication of a leaky pipe or even a blockage that is causing the water to get stuck and not go through the pipe all the way. However, if you notice a very sudden drop in your water pressure, you should call a plumber right away.

Water Damage/Mold Water Damage/Mold

Leaky pipes that have been undiscovered or left unattended can cause serious issues like water damage or mold. Sometimes, water can rot out an entire area in the walls, behind your sink, or in your basement, which can become a very costly repair. Likewise, if you have spotted or smelled mold, this is an indicator that a leak has been dripping for a very long time. If you spot water damage or mold on your floors, walls, or ceilings, call your plumber right away!

Installations of Toilets, Water Heaters, Dishwashers, or Washing Machines

If you’re replacing an appliance, remodeling your home, or moving into a new place, it would be a good idea to have a plumber help you install your new toilet, water heater, dishwasher, or washing machine. You can probably do this yourself if you have a good awareness of handy work and know the home well, but it is usually a good idea to have a professional come and take a look. Experienced, professional plumbers know the way things work with appliances and the plumbing systems in buildings, so we know exactly how to install things correctly.

These are just a few issues where you should get plumbing services! Of course, plumbers offer much more in terms of maintenance, repairs, and installation. If you have a question about whether or not you need a plumber’s services or not, please give us a call at 719-473-8545 and we’d be happy to help you!
